this stuff in my opinion is the best ever but i have alot of italian in my blood, it taste great, perfectly ground,even smelling it makes you feel like your in italy 100% satisfactio.
The quality was as such that what you're undoubtedly paying for is to have the coffee shipped to the United States in teh first place. An imitation that would be better suited as a substitute for hot chocolate or some type of candied drink. I purchased Illy's espresso with eyes on the "imported" label and thought that I was in for something special with what was inside the sealed container. Not the quality of the espresso within.While Starbucks can have an acidic quality and Peet's coffee can come off flat, Illy's Espresso came off like an imitation of espresso. Just add two sugars and you have the perfect brew to rot your teeth and provide nothing for you to truly savor. Unfortunately that was not the case.With a sour caramel scent, the Illy espresso is not full-flavored but mightily thin, even when you have it straight. The quality of the taste reminded me of cheaper espresso brands that are sold at the supermarket -- Pillon, or even generic store brands for that matter.
No matter how many shots of Illy used it still tastes weak to me. I do not like this coffee. But if you like the darker roasts I would advise you to avoid this. I am sure many people like it and they can go ahead. I consider it to be under roasted. I much prefer the Starbucks that I consider to be slightly over roasted and even a bit burnt, to this swill.
It has a great flavor. We have been able to enjoy many cappucinos with this espresso grind.
$13-$14 a 250 gram can (about 1/2 lb) is just cracy. The quality of this product is excellent. I stopped using it because it is such a rip-off. It costs about half that price anywhere in Europe. I think only some micro roaster or dedicated home roaster can beat it. Its price however has been going up like 10% every year in the US.
